What one film do you think everyone should see?

The Color Purple
I seriously don't think I can narrow it down to just one film everyone should see because there are just so many darn good ones. I chose The Color Purple because it was one of the best I've seen where it conveys the true feelings of women and how they are treated by men. Oprah really gave a memorable performance as Sofia, but the real star of this picture was Whoopi Goldberg. You felt her shame, the anguish when she and her children were separated, and her unbelievable joy when her husband (Danny Glover) Albert finally 'does right by her' and makes it possible for them all to be together again. If you've never seen the movie, you may ask what the color purple has to do with the essence of the plot. In the beginning, Celie is just a young girl having a happy childhood with her sister. They enjoy simple pleasures together and in one scene they're playing a hand game in a field of purple flowers. Innocence is their's at that moment in time, as it has been for all of us until reality shakes our world. Celie equates the color purple with simple happiness.
As children, we're slowly introduced to "bad" things such as people dying, or losing a pet, or the threat of war. Worst of all though, is if a child is abused. Their "purple world" is forever gone. I know mine ended when I was nine.
I wish for all children a long, long purple childhood.
My Other Favorite Movies
Some of my other favorites are:Fried Green Tomatoes ("How many of them hormones are you takin' honey?")
Aliens (no, it was a fave long before AVATAR) I love the line where one of the men asks Pvt. Vasquez if she's ever been mistaken for a man and she answered, "No, have YOU?".
An Affair To Remember ("Men never get this movie")
I can't wait to see Avatar. I bet it's going to be a classic!!
