There Was A Footbath In Our Floorboard
We've had our 2004 Impala since 2006 and in that period of time we had two instances of the passenger side front floorboard filling with water. It was a mystery until we started looking around on Google and YouTube using key words like "Impala, floorboard, flooded", etc.
I found a video a guy had made about his 2003 Impala and how he fixed his flooding, so after watching his video, I told Jim we should do our own for our model year and put it up to help someone else out. Here's link to it:
The video was recorded all in one take, so you can see it took my husband less than 5 minutes to change out the old configuration and put in the new component (shroud) to divert the water that comes off the windshield that should be draining down into the wheel well, not the inside of the car.
Something To Consider When Buying Parts, Doing Your Own Repairs
- My husband knows how to work on cars, at least when it comes to the simple stuff. This installation wasn't tough and in my opinion, most people could do it. And, all it took was a screwdriver.
- The video gives you the part number right at the beginning. Copy it down and look for the part number online first. The reason I say this is because ordering from the dealer may cost you more, and they will want to install it for you = extra ($$). I just looked on the GMPartsDirect site and this part was on sale for $4.32, but currently priced at $2.75.
- Because of you may have had water being diverted into your car through the filter, it might be a good time to replace that too. GM filter can be found at GMPD here.
