A friend sent me an email today with these very informative pictures of China's rail system. She and I have long been proponents of bringing back our rail system here in the USA, and we are disgusted with the lack of progress on that front. Comparitively, we are living in the dark ages.
In case you're never able to visit China, you might want to see what they are doing with their rail industry.
You will see the:
- Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail. Beijing departure station.
- The train can reach speeds of 350 km/hr (218.75 mph)
- The crew boarding the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed train.
- The staff preparing food.
The trains have 1st class, business and VIP cars, as well as economy class of
course. There are also dedicated disabled areas, wheelchair accessible
bathrooms and corridors.
How were they able to do all this? They copied the USA and how they ran their rail system in the 1940's and 50's. We're still congratulating ourselves on our national highways. Trouble is, we haven't taken care of those either and our infrastructure is crumbling in big chunks.
