My take on this opportunity might be a bit out of the norm from other writers. My father-in-law grew up near the hormel family home in Austin, Minnesota during the early years of the family food business. His family was not at well off as the Hormels, in fact, quite the opposite. But he can claim to have been in their home as a young boy and has some distant memories of that event.
Hormel is now celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and it's interesting to see how their products have been a staple in many families through the decades.
When I was growing up we almost always had a can or two of Hormel's Dinty Moore Beef Stew in the cupboard, as well as some cans of Spam too. Mom would butter some bread for Dad and dish up a big bowl of it and he'd be as happy as a pig in mud chowing down on that tummy-filling meal. Dad liked their chili too, and sometimes in the winter months when he was working as a carpenter, Mom would fill his food jug with that savory hot spiciness, adding a few saltines and a sandwich in the lunchbox to keep him energized all afternoon.
