Free Shipping Today At Toys "R" Us. Wish I Had Known Yesterday!

Yesterday, I ordered $200+ in toys for our grandkids from Toys "R" Us, and had been charged $25.07 for shipping, even though their come-on email was offering free shipping on items. It wasn't until I started adding items from the grandkids wish list that I could see they had little or no free shipping. It irked me, but purchasing from the wishlist was the easiest way to get the right gifts and have them all sent to one address with little or no effort.

Today, I got an email from TRU saying they had free shipping on EVERYTHING. What??? I was ticked off to say the least. So, I called them and after spending about 10 minutes on hold, I finally got Valerie on the phone. I told her what had happened and asked her to adjust my bill for the previous day's order. Nope, sorry, couldn't do that. I then asked her to keep track of everything in that order and then cancel it, and resubmit it today for the free shipping offer. Nope, couldn't do that either because they don't "price match" on shipping. Huh?

At that point I asked to speak to her supervisor. A couple minutes went by and then Stephanie came on the line. Valerie had acquainted her with the request, and I explained again briefly what I wanted (cancel order, and resubmit it). I think by this time, as I pointed out that the whole transaction was going down the tubes, rather than lose a $200 order she made the quick decision to refund my shipping charges. OK, but then that also meant they had to recalculate the taxes on the order, which I pointed out. She said they would be adjusted too.

Stephanie was very polite and understanding, and I hope she will stay true to her word, and that the amounts will be adjusted. In any case, I will be checking my Visa account in the next few days to see if any refunds show up. I wish there was some way to know ahead of time just what an online store was offering, but I guess that would defeat their greed, huh? Again, "buyer beware". Or, should I say, "buyer be aware"?

A Turkey On My Head And A Bottle In My Hand

So, just when you think your grandmother can't get any more embarrassing, this happens. What's that on your head Grandma? Have you been drinking? The answers are: A turkey hat; and, no. Well, yes, to that last one...sort of.

After sampling the soda previously, (it's Tofurky and Gravy Jones Soda ) ::::ack!::: I can say honestly it's just as tasty as I thought it would be. Get the picture? Imagine the flavor of liquid turkey, tofu and gravy. Yum, yum grandma! I think I'll give this bottle to my big brother. Kind of like those old commercials where the boys make their little brother eat the cereal and when the kid gobbles (pun intended) it down they say, "He likes it! Hey Mikey!". Maybe I'll take it with me to dinner on Thursday and let everyone sample it. I know they will be happy to do that. :::wink:::

I bet everyone is so jealous of my way cool turkey hat, huh? You could have had one too if you had taken this opportunity like I did. Isn't it nice that I have no compunction about doing silly things just to entertain you? You don't have to thank me. I keeps us all sane and giggly.

Since I'm way older than some of you, this is going to be a hard answer to admit to, but I used to love the glue. No, not in the way you think. I did paste some things with it when it came in those nice little round containers with a brush, but I also did nasty things with it...like EAT it. Yes, I was a moron even back in grade school. I stopped all that when I found out it was made from animals hooves though. Yuk! Or, should I say, "Nay" (neigh)? 

Hi Everyone! Just a quick blurb to let everyone know I haven't died or anything. I've been having a really painful flareup in my lower back muscles which makes it so I can't even sit for long periods of time. For days now, I've been laying on the couch with a heating pad and bored out of my mind. Wish I had a laptop, but alas...

Date Nut Ice Box Cookies Recipe

Date Nut Ice Box Cookies

– 400 degrees for 8 minutes – ungreased cookie sheet

 

1 C shortening

2 C brown sugar

2 eggs

1 C nuts (chopped fine)

1 C dates (chopped fine)

 

3 ½ C flour

1 tsp soda

1 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

 

Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and cream well. Add well-beaten eggs. Add nuts and dates that have been finely chopped in food grinder.

Add vanilla. Sift flour once before measuring. Sift flour, soda, and salt together, and combine with creamed mixture with hands. Form dough into rolls 2 in. in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper and chill. Slice and bake at 400 degrees for approximately 8 min. “Approx” because you really need to watch them so they don’t burn.

These cookies can be made ahead of time, frozen and then thawed when you want to make fresh cookies.

 

Recipe given to me by Joan Moline Yates in the 1970’s. Obviously, many people these days have food processors and heavy duty mixers that can make it easier to combine the ingredients. Mom had a meat grinder and her (washed) hands. <smile>  These were my Dad’s favorite cookies (mine too!). Enjoy!
