Every time I see Montel Williams' commercial for the Partnership for Prescription Assistance Program it just burns me up. Not because he is helping that program. I think it is a very noble thing for him to do.
But the PPA program is just another way for the pharmaceutical companies to market their drugs to more people. In this case, the drug companies probably get a huge tax write-off for "donating" their drugs.
If they were not charging outrageous amounts for their drugs in the first place, so much so that many of our average citizens are now forced to choose between their medications and other necessities, then this program might not be needed, or greatly reduced.
PPA Program is defined as:
The Partnership for Prescription Assistance is the largest private-sector effort dedicated to helping patients in need gain access to the prescription medicines they require for little or no cost through patient assistance programs. The partnership brings together America's pharmaceutical companies and more than 1,300 national and local organizations, including the Spina Bifida Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Cancer Society, United Way, and the NAACP.
This isn't any great news to most people I guess, but I feel that Montel has somehow "sold out" to the drug companies, and that they are using him as their 'front man" to add to their bottom line.
